This week's assignment by #Weekly-Environment
. My interpretation features three stages; happy existence, destruction, and rebirth(?).
Switching between Photoshop and Painter, I worked at all three in one file. It took me about four hours, plus one hour in Blender to get the ring walls' perspective right.
The greek tale of Atlantis claims it to have seven concentric walls, made of the material orichalcum, which was supposed to be golden in colour. But, since orichalcum has made its way into general fantasy, that has changed sometimes, and I decided to make it an opalizing turquoise. While the tale tells of a floodwave and earthquake sinking Atlantis, I think the power circle in its center had something to do with it, drawing on powers deep under the earth.
What did I learn? I learned that rubble is hard to do; chaotic but recognizable in structure - I solved it with photos from cgtextures.com. That concentric rings seen from top are hard to paint. That taking a day off a piece, even if it's meant to be quick, pays off. That I want a decent colour picker in Photoshop...
