Tiny tips: Bad Moon by Ranarh Tiny tips: Bad Moon by Ranarh
Moons are quite likely to appear in fantasy paintings, and even more so in sci-fi. Here are some things to avoid to make them look bad. Note that my exemplary moon is white because Earth's is too, but it can have any colour ;)

"Ranarh's tiny tips" is a collection of iddy-biddy tutorials, each containing small bites of advice anyone can chew, aimed at beginner's level artists. They are not software-dependent. If there's a problem you have, something you feel someone should finally explain, or are just curious what I have to say on a particular artistic issue, feel free to tell me.

You'll find the whole Tiny Tips Collection, plus some full-grown walkthroughs in my tutorial section. Check out my blog and website for exclusive tutorials, walkthroughs, and tips.

I know a day I tried to do a detailled moon, but I don't know if I did it well. I can give you the link about it.

You might want to use more photographic reference when painting. Concerning the moon, your software probably has a command that spherizes.

Thank you very much. Having struggled with a lot of things in my early painting time, I've always found tutorials to be a great help. And now I feel obligated to share what I've learned.
I'm very happy you like them.

what i like in your tutorials is how they show us to use our brain. Think before you do...
All these tipps are very true for a lot of other subjects than the moon.
Thank you!
