I admit I don't see the character portraits on white or a preset photoshop gradient as a background as often anymore. But they're not extinct yet. Which they should be. Creating an interesting background with not much work for your bust portrait, first colour wash for a bigger picture, or what-have-you isn't hard at all. I cannot emphasize this enough, so I'll say it again: Simply using an effect filter *is not enough*. Always work over what your computer did for you if you want to avoid that dreadful artificial look.
"Ranarh's tiny tips" is a collection of iddy-biddy tutorials, each containing small bites of advice anyone can chew, aimed at beginner's level artists. They are not software-dependent. If there's a problem you have, something you feel someone should finally explain, or are just curious what I have to say on a particular artistic issue, feel free to tell me.
You'll find the whole Tiny Tips Collection, plus some full-grown walkthroughs in my tutorial section. Check out my blog and website for exclusive tutorials, walkthroughs, and tips.
I'm just getting away from white backgrounds... This helps a lot, now I feel like I have more of an idea of what I can do if I'm not doing a full background~ Thank you sooo much~

Hopefully it worked out ok~
(And don't feel cornered, as a pencil artist - it is no problem to leave that background white
Thanks
